Secure bilge pump to flooring

How are you securing the bilge pump to the hull? It doesn't seem right to merely screw it to the hull. But if information technology'south fastened to a stringer then it'southward i one/2 or more than higher up the hull surface. What accept others done?
Thanks

ya know...i was thinking about that very thing just the other day.

I recollect i am going to use a couple of dabs of epoxy or "beneath waterline" adhesive and glue mine to the bottom.

If information technology ever needs replaced, i'll take to tear it up some how merely i don't want screws going in to my plywood lesser.

Glue a pocket-size block to the hull and install the bilge pump to information technology. You want the bladder switch to besides be a wee bit higher too. And so if yous use a remote switch gum two pieces, i just a tad bit thicker. I also glue starboard pieces with the 5200 too. If yous use plywood block, taper the edges on an angle and tab with glass and even some thickened cabosil as a fillet around information technology. You don't need much to make a smoothe and even transfer. Then bed the screws with some decent caulking merely at the screw holes. This is the standard fare for fifty-fifty the larger boats also.

Myself and a buddy have just used a thin bead of silicone to "glue" the pumps in place with good service.

The ones I've washed this fashion have the removable pumps from the base, and then if I take to replace, I just pop the old pump out and the new 1 in.

I only make sure I don't squish the silicone in areas of the pump that would mess things up

I should add together that the boats we did this style were retro fitting production fiberglass boats that we had very little admission to through small hatches with no room to become two hands, a drill etc in there. The best manner is the fashion Oyster said to practise it

OK Oyster'south way it is. Here'due south the next impaired question. I am planning on installing 2 pumps. One is 2000 and one is 1100. I accept 1 car switch and programme to hook them up do they both work at the same time. Where am I likely to find the most water settling in the boat? Nether the front seat looks like the deepest point for the large pump and the small-scale 1 well-nigh the shaft. Are these good locations?

Personally, I'd accept them both on split up float switches and then one doesn't run dry. I'd put the small one in the lowest signal so it is the ane most used to keep the (hopefully) small day to day ingress nether control simply using a modest current bleed. If it gets above the next float, the large ane kicks in to go serious about clearing it out.

By the time I have built a boat, I'll exist ready to build a boat....

John

I don't accept limbers in the frame between the shaft pigsty and the engine compartment. The pump back at that place picks up te drips from the shaft packing. All my pumps have their own float shitch. I have "panic" switches at the captain for each pump.

Besides, if the at pump fails... somewhen the h2o can pour to the frontwards pumps.

that depends if your boat has a forefoot.
I take a deep forefoot, therefore bilge water gathers in the bow.

If you want to screw the pump to the stringer you lot could always add a cake to extend closer to the bottom. Information technology would depend besides on how shut the stringer sits to the bottom. You don't need to use very long screws as the bilge pump weighs practically nil. You could also just mount with the 2 peak screw holes equally most pumps have four. The bilge pump I have in my fibreglass Larson is mounted to the transom next to the drain plug. It sits right on the bottom and the boat is always dry.

Worked fine - never an issue.

That's exactly what I would practice. Screw it in and then pull the screws out and put some 5200 on the screws and then spiral them back in so that your selection upwards is every bit low as you can get information technology. That's what I did to my plywood skiff... Like y'all said it works great and no issues notwithstanding.... :-)

Until you lot have to pull those screws out.....I'd apply something a little less permanent.
